    What I Had
    Shrimp and Crawfish Etouffee

    What I Spent
    $14 after drink and tip

    What I Thought
Pretty good. They say it’s authentic; I wouldn’t know. I thought it was a bit heavy on the cayenne, but overall it was good. It had lots of shrimp and crawfish in it, and though the portion looked small, I left quite stuffed.

    Would I Return?
Yes, but it’s a tad on the expensive side for the experience. I don’t go there often, but once in a while is pretty enjoyable.

    Other Thoughts
Cornbread before the meal is good. It’s a sweet cornbread, which I don’t typically favor, but it’s good. And the place is a bit loud, so if you need to discuss something over lunch, it may not be your best option.

    What I Had
Blackened Crab Cake Sandwich and a Coke

    What I Spent
$14 and change with the tip

    What I Thought
I’ve liked everything I’ve had there before, despite not being a big spicy fan. The crab cake sandwich is good although not my favorite menu item. In the past I’ve had both the shrimp and chicken ooh-lah-lah as they’re called, and they are still my favorites.

    Would I Return?
Yes, but it’s not a frequent lunch stop. Price is a little higher than I typically like, and I have to be in the mood for Cajun.

    Other Thoughts
Unique place, good food, and the free cornbread appetizer is probably the best before-the-meal freebie around.

  3. What I Had
Blackened Crab Cake Sandwich with cajun fries and water.

    What I Spent
$12 including mandatory gratuity (more on that later).

    What I Thought
The sandwich was good. Not my favorite thing on their menu (that would have to be any of the Ooh-la-las–especially the crawfish Ooh-la-la). The spicy/sweet corn bread they serve you before your meal is awesome. I’m not sure what was cajun about the fries. They were awesome fries, but they weren’t spicy or anything.

    Would I Return?
Yes, but due to the price, it’s reserved for special occasions. I don’t know if I’ll stray from the Ooh-la-la again, though.

    Other Thoughts
Mandatory 18% gratuity on a party of 6? Honestly, our server was GREAT! It was very busy, she seemed to have a lot of tables, and she did a fantastic job of keeping up with us. I would’ve probably tipped her 20%+ (rounding up to the nearest dollar over 20%), but getting slapped with a mandatory gratuity (especially with only 6 of us today) always irks me and on principle I never leave more than what they add. Also, with 12-15 ft ceilings, stucco walls, hardwood floors, and church pews to sit on, it’s VERY noisy in there. Not the place for a quiet lunch or if you are prone to noise headaches. Great cajun food, though, and neither of those two negatives will keep me from returning.

    What I Had
Shrimp Po’ Boy and a Coke

    What I Spent
17 freakin’ dollars! (Total after tax and compulsory tip)

    What I Thought
Nice atmosphere, good service, and decent food. The thing is, I wouldn’t say the food was anything that great. My Po’ Boy was decent, but there was so little seasoning, it actually tasted more like a salad. The fries weren’t really Cajun fries, but overall not bad.

    Would I Return?
    Nah

    Other Thoughts
Too expensive for lunch. I have been there before and my other experiences were better. I think they just happen to have a particularly unremarkable Po’ Boy.

    What I Had
    Fisherman’s Jambalaya

    What I Spent
$13 and change including drink and 18% tip

    What I Thought
I grew up an hour north of Baton Rouge, LA and I’ve had my fair share of Cajun food. I’ve had better Jambalaya, but in all fairness; a Fisherman’s Jambalaya may supposed to be different from what I know. I am used to Jambalaya with rice that is soft, but not mushy. On a brighter note, it had a great spicy taste and plenty of crayfish and sausage.

    Would I Return?
Yes, but not very often. If you are looking for a place to have a quick lunch, this is not the place for you. I would consider it more for dinner than for lunch.

    Other Thoughts
The place has great atmosphere and our waitress was awesome! If you grew up in the Louisiana area, this place will feel right at home. It’s also a great place to go for you LSU Tiger fans. The portions looked small, but were very filling. My one main complaint is the noise level. Talking at the table was very difficult.
